Back-to-school night was last night for my 3 still in elementary. It was uneventful compared to last years. If you missed last years post about back-to-school night click here to enjoy quite a little chuckle.
When I got home from back-to-school last night, I e-mailed Zack's teachers in the middle school. His back-to-school is next week and there's a chance that neither Chuck or I can attend. He may be out of town and I have a college class on Thursdays. I just wanted the teachers to know that we are available should any concerns arise and that our absence at back-to-school in no way was an indication that we didn't care. Here is one reply I received so far:
Mrs. O,
Zack has a wonderful spirit and is very respectful. I am glad he is in our homeroom and social studies class. Zack volunteered to turn on our video projector each morning. You should be very proud - not many kids this age tend to volunteer.
Looking forward to meeting you.
Mrs. G
In the grand scheme of things this may seem small. But in a world where many adults don't have a clue who they are and what they believe, I feel this is BIG, really BIG. On gratituesday, I am grateful that our thirteen year old son is who he is at home, as well as at church, and with friends, and in school. I'm grateful he's setting an example in respect, and in actions. I'm grateful I have an opportunity to know this about him.
Each morning I try to have a devotional with the boys before they leave for school. I challenge them to let God's light shine in them. I tell them they may be the only christian that some of the other students will come in contact with and that God has entrusted them with an awesome responsibility.
On Gratituesday, I'm grateful Zack knows who he is and that he's meeting the challenge! Go GOD! Please use my children in ways that I may not know how to nurture them toward.
Psalm 127
3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD,
children a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are sons born in one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man
whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

I think it's so great that the teacher took the time to praise your son to you! How wonderful to hear such nice things about your son!
Andrea,
What you do each morning is planting seeds for eternity. Keep it up dear, sister. Tell Zach that this is one sister who is praying that he will always have a serving heart!
