The very thought of crunches sends my stomach muscles into spasms and my neck muscles to twitching.
The crunches I'm referring to are VERY different. They are for people with a leg injury. You see, when you're seven years old you still tend to hear things differently than others. I realize that when you're over 40 you hear differently, but you're usually aware you didn't hear correctly so you ask to have the statement repeated. Seven year old's aren't aware they hear incorrectly, so they repeat the misheard word until it drives their older brothers INSANE enough that they force him to "REPEAT AFTER ME...CRUTCHES." Poor little Luke.
Wesley has 'crunches' because of a foot injury. He hit a GRAND SLAM home run to win the championship game for his 11 and 12 year old division! As he slid into home plate, for dramatic effect, his cleat got tangled in the Blue's cleat...
He wishes it was that thrilling...
He climbed our neighbors fence, and as he jumped back to our side of the yard one foot landed on the ground, the other landed on a ladder and hyper or hypo flexed the right foot (bent it too close to the leg.)
Me being the calm mother of four active boys, sent him to the field to play a game of ball (I defend, it was a PLAYOFF GAME.) Then on to perform in a dance routine (Thriller) in the school talent show (three times)( again, I defend, he was the only boy in the dance routine) before deciding, hmmmmm... maybe I should take him to the Doctor?(it was only two days after the incident)
The doctor was so concerned that he sent us for an x-ray, STAT! Great there goes my MOTHER OF YEAR award for the 13th year in a row!
No broken bones, just deep tissue damage. From all I understand deep tissue damage is worse than a broken bone. Great, I feel worse now.
He's taking it all in stride (no pun intended, but pretty punny anyway huh?) He doesn't mind the attention 'crunches' bring. Nor does he mind the attention a mother laden with guilt brings, as she pampers him a tad more than usual.
His team is in the playoffs, and he's riding the bench. Their next game is for the championship! Unfortunately, he'll be on 'crunches' for another week. Keep him in your prayers.

Wesley,
You are in our prayers for a quick recovery. Make sure mom keeps your "favorite foods and things" coming....at least for a couple of days.
MOM, you did what you thought was the 'best thing'...looks like the activities after the fall went okay....until the 3rd time with Thriller that is.
The silver lining is that Wesley is 11 and will heal much faster than someone who is not 11 with muscle/ligament damage.
Hang in there buddy. Love you guys.
