From a young age it was ingrained in me to find treasures for little or nothing.
One of my fondest childhood memories, with my grandfather on my mother's side, was to go "junkin'." He would find old things in junk piles in the woods, take them home and refurbish them. He kept, gave away, and sold the items.
As a teen our entire church family in Germany would go "junkin'," as a fellowship, once a quarter when the locals would put their bulk items out to be picked up by the bulk trash truck.
How does this fit with Jesus being for sale?
It seems that God has a tough time giving away salvation, something that doesn't cost a monetary amount. Salvation! Why? What he offers gives back way more than sky miles, points, and coupons. What he offers is a GIFT, not junk and not found in obscure places! People won't even accept the gift. Who doesn't like gifts? Not to mention, His is the gift that keeps on giving. Salvation, grace, mercy, compassion, love...repeat. His gift changes lives. His gift changes the need for all that ails our society. Yet, he can't give it away! I wondered "if we sold Him would pay?" Then I realized that we do sell Jesus. Each time we chose to sin, we mark Him down and 'sell out' to the highest bidder, Satan!
Hmmmm...I don't like it when I sell Jesus. He's a much better gift. The salvation he gives is a REAL bargain!
