to Zachary, my very sweet thirteen year old son, with many talents from God. What an honor and pleasure to have a son like him. In so many ways he's who I'm not. I was more like Wesley, concerned about what others thought of me. Zachary is his own person. He likes what he likes, he's kind, great with kids and learning how to serve God everyday.
What is he doing lying under the basketball goal at Camp Manatawny, his favorite summer place?
Zack is on the right (second one in blue, sideways). Behind him (in green) is a young man he met at camp when he was less than a year old, and they are still great friends today!
This morning I went to wake him up, as a teenager. The emotions surprised me. I sat on the end of his bed and cried. He's not different today than he was when I put him to bed last night. I think it's the symbolism of time passing that got me. It caught me off guard. He was just sleeping curled up in my arms last week...well...thirteen years ago. I find myself dreading the pace of the next thirteen years- high school, girls, driving, college, grad. school, marriage, daddy...Whew... One day at a time!
We are putting together a party for him this Saturday and I wanted him to make the guest list. There were very FEW people on the list. I asked about this person or that person and he said "No I don't want them there, they have bad language and talk about things that aren't right." Now I don't believe he's perfect. I know he's not. But, he is protecting himself at a tender age from the world. This wasn't a skill I had until adulthood.
Happy birthday sweet boy. I pray the Lord with help you find your wings, but not to soon. I'm so proud of you!

"Train a child in the way he should go and he will not flee from it." God is SO good!!! May you and Chuck celebrate today as well as Zachary. It's not just his day to celebrate. He learned by your example. The devil is not happy today, but the Lord is full of joy with the celebration of Zachary's "milestone" and his effort to choose wisely as such a tender age!! Enjoy these daily blessings!!!!
P.S.I heard you have David Cook on your playlist...I had to put it on mine. Love it :-D
