Opening Day...

I always love the beginning of a new sports season. I waited with great anticipation for this years opening day of baseball, little league that is. For as exciting as pro ball is, these boys play with ALL heart. They leave it all on the field, and for what? The feeling they get inside, no paycheck at the end of the week, pure adrenaline!

Three of our boys play baseball, Wesley, Clay and Luke. I love to see how they have matured and improved from the previous year. Clay and Wesley's opening games were at the same time on fields a football length apart. I spent the entire time running from field to field trying to catch them hitting or making plays. They were a little rusty. They need some hitting tune ups. Wesley's really frustrated with his hitting. On the other hand, he is the starting catcher, which he enjoys.

We are slightly concerned, because he has a common foot injury for catchers (and soccer) players. Sever's disease is when the heel bone in a child's foot grows (usually the first bone to grow just prior to a growth spurt)before the muscles and tendons can catch up. It causes a great deal of pain. We are stretching him, icing and giving him anti-inflammatory to keep it down.

These ball players aren't happy at the moment. They're to hungry to be interested in posing for this group picture.
