I bought large marshmallows to make magic marshmallows puffs for the kids on Thanksgiving day. I went to empty them into the plastic storage container and I found the lid was off slightly. Inside were two very stale marshmallow's. Zach and I were the only two in the kitchen so I pegged one at him. He rapidly fired back. This went on for several minutes as we chased each other and laughed. It was a lot of fun, just in the nick to time too. He's twelve now. He's never been one to open up much, and it seems as he continues to mature he is more introspective. The other day I realized for the first time that we had nothing to talk about. I left his room almost in tears and resolved to find a way to keep the channels open. I know I can count on God to supply what I have recently begun to call ALTAR-nate routes. Today's marshmallows fight reminded me that we can communicate in laughter as well as in serious conversation. Laughter is the (second)best medicine (after prayer.) Thank you Lord for an ALTAR-nate route!
